“…Fragmentation has been suggested to cause similar discepancies in the immunoas say of Factor Vili RAG by Laurell [4] com pared with RIA [5], or nephelometry [6], Whichever explanation is correct, the im portant fact to emerge from this work is that fibronectin is altered during processing and that immunoassay methods, particularly the Laurell immunoelectrophoresis technique, could overestimate the fibronectin content of the blood products used for the treatment of patients. Future work in this area may show that functional assays of fibronectin based on its biological activity and the bind ing characteristics of its molecular domains, will prove to be the only methods that can reliably predict the therapeutic effectiveness of fibronectin-rich products manufactured for therapeutic use.…”
