Measurement of Investment Potential and Spatial Distribution of Arable Land among Countries within the “Belt and Road Initiative”

Abstract: The belt and road initiative (BRI) is a mutual development approach projected by China, which delivers exceptional opportunities for multi-phased communication and cooperation across Asia, Africa, and Europe. It opens ample opportunities for China to easily invest in overseas arable land. Based on the macro data of 119 countries in 2010 and 2016 before and after the BRI, the study comprehensively uses fuzzy C-means clustering and the entropy method to evaluate the potential of arable land investment from four … Show more

“…The objectives were as follows: (1) to overcome the problems of randomness and subjective judgment that cannot be avoided by the subjective weighting method, and (2) to solve the problem of overlapping information among multi-indicator variables. The details of the formulas and procedures used can be found in [ 39 , 40 , 41 ]. Table 3 presents the weight of each indicator.…”

“…Compared with rural product markets, the process of factor marketization in rural China has been slow. Although China has roughly 7% of the global agricultural land (approximately 167.5 million hectares), it serves over one-fifth of the global population [1,2]. The pressure of the vast population scale and limited rural land makes poorly efficient small rural households unable to support China's sustainable agricultural development.…”
