“…Ion leakage, considered to be a useful indicator of damage to the plasma-membrane (Koch et al 1995), was determined using the protocol described in Brown and Newman (2003). Following exposure to 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 mg l -1 CAPB in seawater for either 48 h or 120 h, individual discs were transferred to boiling tubes containing 5 ml of ultra-pure water, left for 5 min (Sample 1) and again transferred to a second set of boiling tubes containing 5 ml of ultra-pure water that was boiled for 5 min (Sample 2), after which the discs were discarded.…”
