Abstract:A simple and accurate method to measure the Kerr nonlinearity coefficient of optical fibres is proposed and demonstrated. The method is based on the nonlinear polarisation rotations caused by cross-phase modulation between two lightwaves of different wavelengths co-propagating in fibres. The Kerr nonlinearity coefficients of standard singlemode fibre and TrueWave TM reduced slope fibre measured with this method are in good agreement with the published data.Introduction: Optical fibre is not a linear media. It … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
