Measurement ofp¯pandppElastic Scattering in the Dip Region at

Abstract: We have measured the differential cross section for pp and pp elastic scattering at Vs = 53 GeV in the interval 0.5 < |/| < 4.0 (GeV/c) 2 at the CERN intersecting storage rings using the split-field magnet detector. The shape of the differential cross section differs significantly between pp and pp scattering in the region 1.1 < U| < 1.5 (GeV/c) 2 , with pp data showing a less pronounced dip structure than pp data.

“…namely that the slope of the exponential fall-off of the differential cross section as a function of |t| becomes larger with increasing √ s, and the |t| value at which the local diffraction minimum occurs is reduced [4]. It has also been observed that the shape of the local diffractive minimum is different between pp and pp elastic scattering [5]. The elastic differential cross section plays an important role in constraining soft diffractive models [6][7][8] which cannot be directly calculated by perturbative QCD [9].…”

“…Differential elastic cross section for pp scattering. All three models for the odderon-proton coupling and the original Donnachie-Landshoff fit are compared with experimental data [7,8]. All five ISR energies are displayed, with successive energies shifted upwards by a factor of 100.…”

“…But experimentally the odderon remains an elusive object. Some weak evidence for its existence has only been seen in elastic scattering at the ISR where the pp and pp differential cross sections show a difference at around |t| ∼ 1.3 GeV 2 [4], for a recent discussion see [5]. There, however, the odderon is only one among many contributions and hence difficult to pin down.…”
