Measurement of theCPAsymmetry Amplitudesin2βwithB0Mesons

Abstract: We present results on time-dependent CP asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 88 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->B(-)B decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. We study events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B(0) or B(-0) from its decay products. The amplitude of the C… Show more

“…In the standard model (SM), the only sources of CP-violating (CPV) are the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) phases, which appears to be the origin of the CPV phenomena observed in nondiagonal processes involving the K and B mesons [1][2][3]. However, the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe indicates that, the CPV sources in the SM are not sufficient, and new CPV sources are needed to generate the observed baryon asymmetry.…”

“…For a recent report on this subject and in particular on (ε /ε) quantity see, for example, [19]. Indeed it has been easier to measure the CP violating asymmetry at the beauty factories (Belle and BaBaR) in the golden channel J/ψ K S in neutral B decays [20,21]:…”

“…Measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in B 0 meson decays through a dominant Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) favored b → ccs amplitude [1] have provided a crucial test of the mechanism of CP violation in the Standard Model (SM) [2]. For such decays the interference between this amplitude and B 0 B 0 mixing is dominated by the single phase β = arg (−V cd V * cb /V td V * tb ) of the CKM mixing matrix.…”
