Measurement of theΩmagnetic moment

Abstract: A sample of 24700 n ~ hyperons was produced by a polarized neutral beam in a spin-transfer reaction, The n ~ polarizations are found to be -0.054 ±0.019 and -0.149 ±0.055 at mean fl ~ momenta of 322 and 398 GeV/c, respectively. The directions of these polarizations give an n ~ magnetic moment of -1.94 ± 0.17 ± 0.14 nuclear magnetons.

“…The measurements of the baryon decuplet magnetic moments were reported for [3] and ÿ [4] to yield a new avenue for understanding the hadron structure. The magnetic moments of baryon decuplet have been theoretically investigated in several models such as the quenched lattice gauge theory [5], the quark models [6], the chiral bag model [7], the chiral perturbation theory [8], the QCD sum rules [9], the chiral quark model [10], and the chiral quark soliton model [11].…”

“…In this Letter we report a new measurement of φ Ξ from a data set of 1.35 million polarized Ξ − → Λπ − decays. Our data come from Experiment 756 at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory [13][14][15][16]. Polarized Ξ − hyperons with transverse momenta p T spanning 0.5 to 1.5 GeV/c and momentum fraction x F from 0.3 to 0.7 were produced by the collision of unpolarized 800-GeV/c protons incident upon a beryllium target at an angle with respect to the vertical axis.…”

“…As an application of this method, the angular distribution of soft photons emitted in Ω − → ΛK − decays has been computed in order to study the sensitivity to the anomalous magnetic moment of Ω − [4]. The results obtained with this method, however, are not competitive with the precision attained [5] using the usual spin precession technique [2].…”
