Measurement of the ratio ofΣ0toΛ0inclusive production from 28.5-GeV/cprotons on beryllium

Abstract: The ratio of the cross section for 2' inclusive production to the cross section for A0 inclusive production has been measured with 28.5-GeV/c protons incident on a beryllium target at an average laboratory production angle of 4". This ratio was measured to be 0.278?0.011-C0.05, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic in that order. The ratio does not depend strongly on the momentum of the produced particle between 10 and 24 GeV/c. The effect of Z0 contamination on previous determinations of the … Show more

“…Furthermore, from data on inclusive and 0 production in pBe collisions at √ s = 25 GeV, we obtain the ratio, 0 / = 0.278 ± 0.011 ± 0.05, with a statistical and a systematic error, respectively [55]. We take 0 / = 0.278 ± 0.052, thus = (0.2175 ± 0.032) + 0 .…”

“…Fig. 3 contains the Λ/Σ 0 ratio observed in p Be (open triangle) [28] and p Ne (open circle) [29] collisions. The open square is a very recent result [30] from the STAR Collaboration at RHIC obtained for d Au collisions at √ s=200 GeV.…”

“…Additionally, there exist data from only one experiment on how the production of Σ 0 and Λ differ over phase space in nuclear collisions (p+Be at p lab = 28.5 GeV/c), from which it appears that the ratio Λ Σ 0 →Λγ /Λ inclusive is relatively constant at approximately 1/4. [5]. However, with possibly different feeddown contributions from resonance states in larger colliding systems, that may not be true in heavy ion collisions.…”
