Measurement properties of the minimal disease activity criteria for psoriatic arthritis

Abstract: ObjectiveTo comprehensively assess evidence on the measurement properties of the minimal disease activity (MDA) criteria, a composite measure of the state of disease activity in psoriatic arthritis (PsA).MethodsA targeted literature review was conducted to identify studies that informed the validity and/or ability of the MDA to detect change among patients known to have experienced a change in clinical status. The search was conducted using MEDLINE and Embase databases (published as of October 2017). Pertinent… Show more

“…(38) Concerning PROs, more than ¾ of the registries reported HAQ and the other frequently collected PROs were pain and patient global assessment which are all part of MDA. (39) Fatigue was recently considered as an important topic mainly because of its impact on quality of life. (40) It is also part of the main inner core-set; however, in our study, fatigue was reported in only 1/3 of the PsA registries or cohorts.…”

“…Consequently, we were interested in researching the group of patients through the Minimal Disease Activity Index, revised in 2019 by Coates 12 , to determine the number of patients with disease minimal activity or remission and their proportion in the research group (Table 3). The data show that only 4 patients (8.69%) did not present symptoms like joint pain, while the absence of the swollen joints was more frequent, in 39.13% of cases, which means that the pain predominated.…”

“…The attainment of remission or, alternatively, a low disease activity status is a treatment goal in chronic inflammatory diseases, including PsA. MDA is a recommended and clinically relevant treat‐to‐target outcome in PsA ( 26 ), and is also increasingly being used as an end point in clinical trials due to its capacity to discriminate between different treatments ( 27 ). We used sustained achievement of MDA as a strict criterion to randomize patients and loss of MDA as the criterion for relapse.…”
