Measurements and Evaluations of Multi-Element Antennas Based on Limited Channel Samples in a Reverberation Chamber

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, evaluations of diversity gains and capacities of multi-element antenna based on limited channel samples in a reverberation chamber (RC) are studied. It is shown that, for a large antenna array, the classical sample estimation based on finite channel samples tends to underestimate its diversity gain and capacity. An improved (yet slightly more complicated) eigenvalue estimation method is applied in both diversity gain and capacity calculations, which effectively alleviates the estimation… Show more

“…The reverberation chamber (RC) has traditionally been used for overthe-air (OTA) measurements of passive antennas and active devices [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. For various OTA tests, it is of fundamental importance to know the channel conditions under which the antenna or device under test is measured.…”

“…Figure 3(c) shows that the ECC of the proposed LTE MIMO antenna is much less than the recommend value of 0.5. The ECC is obtained by using the far-field radiation patterns as shown in Equation (1) where the incident wave is assumed as the uniform environment (P (θ, φ) = 1) [27][28][29][30].…”

“…Beside these traditional EMC applications, these electrically large cavities are also used for antenna testing [2,3], to replicate multipath propagation in testing wireless devices [4][5][6][7][8], and also for the material scattering cross section determination [9]. The RC random field properties make them appealing also to study human exposure to electromagnetic field [10,11].…”
