“…Figure 2 shows the parts of the experimental rig, and the top and side views of the scraping blade are given in sections a and b, respectively. The sketch of the scraping process was adapted from Tsai et al 29 The soiled surfaces are placed on a holder, as seen in parts c and d. The whole design of the texture analyzer can be seen in Figure 3 . The setup uses the “extended craft knife” probe of the texture analyzer, and the mechanical removal is carried out using the TA HD Plus texture analyzer.…”

“…A 3-dimensional, isothermal, transient impinging jet model was constructed with three fluids, namely (i) stagnant air at ambient temperature and pressure; (ii) the water jet; and (iii) the soil layer. All fluids were considered incompressible: (i) and (ii) were Newtonian while the soil behaviour was modelled using the regularised Bingham-Papanastasiou model which has been shown to give a reasonable description of its shear rheology (Tsai et al, 2020). The fluid properties are summarised in Table 1.…”

“…Table 1 -Fluid properties at 20 °C (Tsai et al, 2020) Fluid The experimental case considered for comparison featured a jet radius, 𝑟 o , of 1 mm, a temperature of 20 °C and water flow rate of 2 L min -1 , giving 𝑅𝑒 j ~ 19,000. Under these conditions 𝑟 t was 15.5 mm and the observed limit of soil removal was around 26 mm.…”
