Measurements of the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron fromQ2=1.75 to 4.00 (GeV/c)2<

Abstract: Quasielastic e-d cross sections have been measured at forward and backward angles. Rosenbluth separations were done to obtain RL and R T at Q 2 = \.15, 2.50, 3.25, and 4.00 (GeV/c) 2 . The neutron form factors GEH and G\fn have been extracted using a nonrelativistic model. The sensitivity to deuteron wave function, relativistic corrections, and models of the inelastic background are reported. The results for GMn are consistent with the dipole form, while GEH is consistent with zero. Comparisons are made to the… Show more

“…The first contains values of proton magnetic form factor data tabulated in [77]. The second contains the proton data and the neutron magnetic form factor data tabulated in [78,79,80,81,82,83,84]. The third contains the proton and neutron data and the two-pion continuum data constructed from pion form factor data and a ππ → NN partial amplitude using (14).…”

“…Using the neutron form factor data reported in [78,79,80,81,82,83,84] we fit G n M (q 2 ) = ∞ k=0 a k z(q 2 ) k by minimizing the χ 2 function of (20). For a cut Q 2 ≤ 0.5 GeV 2 we find r n M = 0.74 +0.…”

“…Figure 1- on deuterium, combined with knowledge of the free elastic ep scattering cross section, allows one to extract the neutron magnetic form factor in a way that minimizes the dependence of the extraction on the specific deuteron model used. The experiments [46,47] both measured the quasi-elastic 2 H(e, e n) scattering cross section but did not measure the ratio to 2 H(e, e p). The experiments [43,44,50,51] used the double-polarization beam-target asymmetry technique with the (inclusive) reaction 3 He( e, e ) to extract G n M .…”
