“…Assessing the impact of LGBTQ-affirmative CBT training in real-world clinical practice would also allow for addressing a limitation of our simulated practice assessment, which only assessed the selection and delivery of specific LGBTQ-affirmative CBT techniques rather than uptake of a broader LGBTQ-affirmative approach to case conceptualization. Future research that studies the application of this training to actual practice would be well-suited to incorporating established measures of CBT case conceptualization (e.g., Kuyken et al, 2016) as adapted to LGBTQ-affirmative CBT (Bucci et al, 2016; Easden & Kazantzis, 2018). This research would also allow for studying whether specific LGBTQ-affirmative CBT techniques can be appropriately matched to the client’s presenting concern rather than just being delivered at all, an important aspect of evidence-based intervention tailoring (Zilcha-Mano et al, 2022).…”

“…Evaluations of formulations are beginning to grow “based on the premise that the quality of case formulations may impact on outcomes” (, p. 32). Bucci et al’s systematic review found eight separate quality assessment measures of case formulations. One consistent feature of these assessment measures concerns external coherence (e.g., the degree to which it is consistent with empirically supported theory).…”

“…Another challenge is that there is little information about the reliability and validity of the case conceptualization, although contributions in this area are increasing (Bucci, French, and Berry (2016); (Persons & Hong, 2016)). To strengthen their idiographic assessment data and the conclusions they draw from them, we recommend that clinicians rely on basic principles of behavioral assessment (see (Haynes et al, 2011), and collect data (as described in the next section) to test their formulation hypotheses and monitor treatment progress for each case they treat.…”
