Aim To describe the value, knowledge and implementation of evidenced‐based practice (EBP) among Chinese nurse managers and explore its influencing factors. Background Although much of literature have reported the importance of nurse managers in pushing EBP progress and encouraged them to engage in EBP activities, the extent to which nurse managers engage in EBP is unclear. Methods A cross‐sectional web‐based survey was applied to 1,166 nurse managers recruited from 54 hospitals in Guangdong Province, China. Descriptive statistics, t‐tests or one‐way ANOVAs, Spearman's correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the data. Results The average scores of the Quick‐EBP‐VIK were with the mean of 2.62 (±0.56). Result showed that educational background, professional title, whether they have received EBP education or training, and EBP organisational culture and readiness are the factors influencing managers’ total Quick‐EBP‐VIK score, with 43.5% of the variance explained by these factors. Conclusions Nurse managers had positive attitudes towards EBP, but they lacked the EBP knowledge and rarely implemented EBP. Furthermore, supportive organisational environment, effective education and training can help to enhance EBP knowledge and skills of managers. Implications of nursing management The competence of nurse managers for EBP implementation should be taken seriously. Personal and organisational strategies which can strengthen managers’ EBP knowledge and skills need to be developed and conducted.

The implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in health care has been focused mainly on hospital settings and there is little research on EBP adoption and implementation among school nurses in Taiwan. This study aimed to determine primary school nurses’ perceptions regarding EBP and to explore the factors that influence EBP in Taiwan. A cross-sectional design was used and the School Nurse Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire was developed to collect data. A total of 2679 elementary school nurses in Taiwan were invited to participate in this study, and 1200 completed questionnaires were returned, with a 45% response rate. Participants’ mean age was 37.5 (range: 31–62) years and the mean duration of employment as a school nurse was 8.4 (range: 1–20) years. The majority of participants had a Bachelor’s degree (56%). The results revealed that participants had insufficient EBP knowledge and skills. However, they had a positive attitude toward and moderate self-efficacy in EBP. The demographic data positively correlated with knowledge, attitudes, skills, self-efficacy, and influencing factors. Certain influencing factors were highlighted. As school nurses play a crucial role in promoting children’s health, they ought to embrace EBP so as to provide more effective services. School organization should play a supportive role with regard to EBP implementation.

Background: The availability of valid and reliable instruments, based on current competency frameworks, is essential to respond to the need for accurate measurement of the competency of registered nurses in evidence-based practice (EBP). Aims: To develop and validate a questionnaire capable of measuring EBP competencies in registered nurses following the competency framework developed by Melynk et al. (2014). Methods: The study was developed in two stages: (a) creation of the questionnaire based on an operational definition of the construct, its face, and content validation by 10 experts, and cognitive piloting; (b) psychometric evaluation of the questionnaire by a cross-sectional, and multicenter study between February and November 2018. Analyses were conducted of the questionnaire's reliability and construct validity (exploratory [EFA] and confirmatory [CFA] factor analyses). Results: First phase: The initial version of EBP-COQ© Prof contained 50 items grouped into four dimensions (attitudes, knowledge, skills, and utilization). After two expert validation rounds, a 35-item version was obtained with content validity index of 0.86. Second phase: The questionnaire was completed by 579 nurses; EFA with PROMAX rotation revealed that the fourfactor model had the best fit (χ 2 = 311.32; p = .001, root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0.000, 90% confidence interval [CI] = 0.000-0.010; comparative fit index [CFI] = 1), and it showed a good CFA fit index: CFI = 0.932, and RMSEA = 0.093 (90% CI = 0.097 − 0.108). Cronbach's α for each factor ranged from 0.817 (factor III) to 0.948 (factor II). Linking Evidence to Action: EBP-COQ Prof© is a valid, reliable, and easily administered questionnaire that measures the self-perceived competency of registered nurses in EBP based on an updated and specific competency framework. It permits the independent evaluation of attitudes, knowledge, and skills related to EBP and of its utilization in hospital and primary care settings, allowing the monitoring of compliance with EBP.
