Measuring the Function Points for Migration Project: A Case Study

Abstract: In this study, we extend the study of Function Point Analysis (FPA) for the measurement of source code based migration project using the migration tooling options. FPA is an objective and structured technique to measure software size by quantifying its functionality provided to the user, based on the requirements and logical design. It is noticed that the procedure for the above measurement is not fully described in FPA method. Hence, the same estimation concept has been applied to an in-house project on an ex… Show more

“…Function Point Analysis was designed by Albrecht [17] to count the functionality of software projects. This method measures the size of the software, it considers internal logical files [18], external interface file, external input-output, and external inquiries from functional viewpoint metric. ESTIMACS and SPQR/20 are the models based on Function point analysis estimation.…”

“…Classical estimation models like COCOMO II [3] are also widely used to estimate the effort required in migration project based on code complexities. FPA (Function Point Analysis) [3] strategy inspired popular frameworks ESTI-MACS and SPQR/20 [18,19] by considering different factors in the function point measurement like complexity of algorithms, code, and data structures. Another classical estimation technique -Putnam model [3] estimates the time and effort needed to finish the project based on lines of code (LOC).…”
