Mechanical performance of FRP-confined geopolymer concrete under seawater attack

Abstract: In the study, mechanical properties and durability performance of confined/unconfined geopolymer concrete and ordinary concrete specimens were investigated under ambient and seawater environments. Some of the specimens were confined by carbon fiber and basalt fiber–reinforced polymer fabric materials with one layer and three layers under chloride and ambient environments to observe mechanical strength contribution and durability performances of these hybrid types of materials. These fiber-reinforced polymer fa… Show more

“…s ss shown in Figure 1 is the steadystate cracking stress and d ss is the flat crack opening corresponding to s ss . The properties of strain hardening and multi-crack can be guaranteed only when both criteria meet the requirements (22)(23)(24). where s 0 is the maximum bridging stress provided by fibers at the crack; s fc is the cracking stress of the matrix.…”

“…Recently, eco-friendly cleaner geopolymer or alkali activated concrete has been preferred instead of OPC concrete due to less energy requirement and environmental pollution [9]. The alkali activated concrete exhibited superior mechanical and durability performance for structural utilization [10][11][12]. In addition, self-compacted concrete is widely used for the structural elements that required congested steel rebars and the essential properties of the SCC are passing ability and flowability without bleeding and segregation [13].…”

“…The other raw materials, ceramic tile powder [4], natural volcanic pozzolan [5], coconut shell ash [6], red mud [7] can be utilized in the production of AAC specimens. AAC has superior mechanical properties depending on the source of the alumina and silica based precursors and alkali activators, such as high compressive strength [8], superior sulphate, seawater and sulfuric acid resistance [9,10], low drying shrinkage [11], and fire resistance [12].…”
