Mechanical Properties and Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Karst Limestone under Uniaxial Compression

Abstract: Firstly, I-RPT ultrasonic detector was used to test the wave velocity of karst limestone with different initial microstructure and water content. Then, RMT-150B rock testing machine and DS2-16B acoustic emission system were used to test the acoustic emission (AE) under uniaxial compression. Mechanical properties and AE characteristics were obtained during rock failure. The detailed relationship between stress-strain and AE characteristics was studied in this paper. Research results indicated the following: (1)… Show more

“…Along with the implementation of China's " e Belt and the Road" strategic plan and the rapid development of national economy and traffic construction in the western region, the number of motor vehicles has been increasing and the traffic volume has been increasingly saturated in recent years. Traffic congestion problems have seriously restricted the development of road traffic [1][2][3][4][5][6]. As the tunnel project is an irreversible project and the traffic route is nonrenewable resources, there are more and more single hole three-lane loess highway tunnels in new construction and reconstruction projects in the western region [7,8].…”

“…As a typical karst landform in the Guizhou province, the rock formations are mostly limestone and argillaceous limestone [1]. As resource exploitation moves to deep strata, limestone is characterized by complex rock properties such as high strength, high brittleness, and easy deformation during exploitation [2,3]. Te cumulative blasting technology can efciently and directly fracture the rock mass, reduce the damage of the retained rock mass, and form a regular contour surface.…”

“…Because the construction of tunnel project is irreversible and the traffic routes are difficult to reappear once occupied, there are more and more single-hole four-lane highway superlarge-span tunnels in new construction and reconstruction projects. Compared to the highway tunnel with three or two lanes, superlarge-span tunnel has the advantages of increasing vehicle speed, shortening mileage, and saving energy and time [9,10]. In 2010, e Road Design Manual Tunnels [11,12], issued by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs of South Korea, detailed the design support parameters of superlarge-span highway tunnels.…”
