Mechanical Properties and Wear Behavior of a Novel Composite of Acrylonitrile–Butadiene–Styrene Strengthened by Short Basalt Fiber

Abstract: Polymer matrix composites (PMC) have a competitive and dominant role in a lot of industries, like aerospace and automobiles. Short basalt fiber (SBF) is used to strengthen acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) polymers as a composite. The composite material is fabricated using injection molding with a new technique to obtain a uniform distribution for the ABS matrix at an elevated temperature range from 140 • C to 240 • C. Four types of specimen were produced according to the mechanically mixed amounts of SBF,… Show more

“…Structural deformation, dimensional variations and degradation of sliding parts in commercial working systems necessitate the reduction of the friction and enhancing the performance of the involved counterparts [90]. Therefore, all aspects of mechanical, chemical, and materials sciences are involved simultaneously to boost up the performance of a system [86,91,92]. The earliest spikes of considering tribology as a science was seen in the development of high velocity internal combustion engines in the beginning of 20th century [93].…”

“…All the samples points plotting located in the high expansive clay zone of the diagram, Esna Shale as a destructive agent and its effect on heritage buildings and sites. The Esna Shale was classified as high expansive soil by many autho (Abdellah, Fathi, Abdelhaleem, & Dewidar, 2018;Ayman et al, 2016;Cross, 2008;Ismail, Anderson, & Rogers, 2005;Zeid, Attia, & Abdellah, 2015;Wüst & McLane, 2000). “…When Short Basalt Fiber (SBF) filler material was used for ABS composite, there is a weaker interfacial bonding between composite and the filler material. With an increase in the percentage of SBF content, wear strength and surface hardness is enhanced, while the weakness of the interfacial bonding between fiber and composite leads to a decrease in the impact strength (6) . Teflon nanoparticles with Nylon 6 composite increased the tensile strength and reduced the ductility of the material.…”
