Mechanical Properties Of Composite Biomass Briquettes

Abstract: In the handling and usage processes, sufficient density and durability of biomass (straw, read) briquettes should be provided. For the briquettes density standards determined the value ρ > 1.0 g cm-3. In ? the densification process usually fine grinded particles are used, what significantly increases energy consumption for stalk material cutting. Calculated energy consumption for common reed cutting to sizes less than 3 mm was > 7 kJ kg-1 but for size 20 mm it was approximately 1 kJ kg-1. The goa… Show more

“…But they engage in other materials than paper waste, primarily in briquettes made from wood waste (Basore 1929;Sheridan, Berte 1959;Brožek et al 2012;Brožek 2013b), from energy plants (Plíštil et al 2004(Plíštil et al , 2005Kakitis et al 2010), or from alternative fuels (Kolářová 2011). Their authors concentrate primarily on energy properties, but not on mechanical properties.…”

“…As can be seen from the data obtained, the increase in moisture content decreased the strength parameter values of the briquettes and thus the resistance against external forces that may act on the briquette. In a study on briquettes obtained from wheat straw, hemp stalk, and cane waste, the specific compression force value was determined as 38–55 N mm −1 44 . Kabas reported that the specific compression force value of briquettes was 35–40 N mm −1 in a study on the production of briquettes from greenhouse wastes 19 .…”

“…A. Kakitisand colleagues investigated the properties of briquettes of Bialobrzeski, Futura 75 and Santhica 27 hemp. Their density was high, reaching 1185 kgm −3 DM, and their breaking strength varied from 101.3 to 122.4 Nmm −1 [31].…”
