Mechanical properties of particulate organic natural filler-reinforced polymer composite: A review

Abstract: Considering the cost in utilization of organic natural filler as an alternative to manmade fiber and mineral inorganic filler-reinforced polymer composite is of great interest. The main reasons for using natural fillers are to reduce the dependence on petroleum-based, nonrenewable resources and are also a smarter use of environment and financial resources. Only limited research works have been done on the mechanical properties, such as tensile, flexural, and impact on particulate organic natural filler-reinfor… Show more

“…8, the addition of untreated and modified CMFs to PLA remarkably reduced the Eˊ values of PLA-based biocomposites. The results might be attributed to the fibers' agglomeration and formation of voids between the polymer matrix and fibers, thereby diminishing the mechanical properties of materials (Kuan et al 2021;Alasfar et al 2022). The neat PLA exhibited the Tg at 69.6 °C, which is somewhat higher than the obtained Tg value from DSC (67.9 °C).…”

“…Moreover, the efficiency of fillers in improving the mechanical properties of materials is highly dependent on the interface interactions and adhesion of fillers and matrices [231,232]. Premalal et al [190] conducted a study related to the addition of rice husk (RH) and talcum fillers in polypropylene (PP).…”

“…Taking into consideration the petrochemical origin of PE and the lack of the possibility of biodegradation, new ways of improving its sustainability need to be implemented. One of the methods is mechanical recycling [5][6][7][8], and the other one is the production of composites with plant fillers [9][10][11]. The latter is especially interesting because adding natural-based fillers not only improves renewability but can also reduce the need to use conventional, synthetic additives, which is a step towards environmental friendliness.…”
