Mechanical Properties of Polyolefin Fiber-Reinforced Light Weight Concrete

Abstract: The utilization of polyolefin fibers in reinforced concrete can potentially enhance the properties of the concrete by changing the interfacial properties of the fiber-matrix interface. The objective of this research was to determine the mechanical properties of polyolefin fiber reinforced lightweight concrete (LWC). Compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strengths of the sample were measured. Polyolefin fibers were added to the reinforced composite in variable amounts (0-2%). The lightweight concrete was… Show more

“…Firstly, the presence of POF groups acts as a bridge between cracks, enhancing the cohesion of the specimens and impeding crack growth, thereby improving the tensile strength. Same effect has been observed in a previous study by Arash Sedaghatdoost et al (2017), where the addition of POF to concrete resulted in improved TS due to the bridging effect of POF groups [11].…”

“…It can be analyzed from Figure 9 that the LT Ratio increased with the increase in the percentage of POF. Previous research also shows the same trend for this test [13,14,15]. Figure 5 gives the details of the light passing through POF, and Table 6 describes the values obtained from the instrument.…”

“…Whilst, it is still being highly resistant to several durability problems that traditional concrete could cause [3]. Many efforts were applied toward developing high performance concrete for the building structures with enhanced performance and safety [4]. Geopolymers are the product of alkali activated aluminosilicate sources that excelled as an alternative to ordinary binders due to its sustainability, low cost and good mechanical properties [2].…”
