Mechanical Property of Pavement Concrete with Nano-Particles

Abstract: Mechanical properties of pavement concrete with nano-particles are experimentally studied and compared with that of plain pavement concrete. The test results indicate that the flexural, compressive and splitting tensile strengths of pavement concrete with nano-particles are all improved with different extent. Firstly, the mechanical properties of pavement concrete are enhanced with the increasing content of nano-particles, and the peak values are achieved at certain content. Subsequently, the mechanical proper… Show more

“…Nittaya, et al [1] and Ozyildirim, et al [2] examined the effect of adding NS on the density of concrete. Furthermore, Forood Torabian Isfahani et al [3], M. Nili, et al [4] Valquiria S., et al [5], and Zhang, M. [6] studied the effects of the use of nano-silica on compressive strength of concrete. Lin DF, et al [7], and Björnström J [8] confirmed that the SiO2 nanoparticles increased concrete strengths and enhanced its resistance to water absorption (WA).…”

“…In concrete technology, several nanoparticles have been widely used by many researchers to improve the quality of cement materials, by modifying microstructure, mechanical properties and durability of concrete or mortar [2 3]. The results obtained there is a linear and significant relationship between the strength of durable concrete and nanoparticles [4]. Nanoparticles increase the aggregate contact zone structure, namely the interface transition zone between aggregates and mortar, resulting in better bonding between aggregates and cement paste [5 6].…”

“…Nano-materials, as a novel modified additive, have different physical and chemical properties due to their nanometer-level dimension. Study on the mechanical performance of concrete incorporated with nanoparticles as modified additives has been highlighted in previous literatures (Zhang, Wang, and Zhang 2011;Li et al 2015;Silva et al 2016;Ma et al 2016). Currently, increasing attention has been devoted into the durability of concrete with nano-particles.…”
