Mechanically and Thermally Enhanced Intrinsically Dopable Polyimide Membrane with Advanced Gas Separation Capabilities

Abstract: In this paper, we present the first preparation of an intrinsically dopable polyimide (DPI) membrane containing an amine-capped aniline trimer (ACAT) that reveals advanced gas separation capabilities as well as mechanically and thermally enhanced properties. The as-prepared DPI membrane was synthesized by reacting ACAT and 4,4 0 -(4,4 0isopropylidenediphenoxy)bis(phthalic anhydride) (BSAA) through a conventional thermal imidization reaction. Polyaniline (PANI) and conventional nondopable polyimide (NDPI) membr… Show more

“…In order to obtain more excellent properties to meet the requirements in application fields, the properties of PI should be improved. 18,19 For example, the improvement of electrical conductivity could eliminate the damage of static electricity. And the enhancement of thermal conductivity could extend its working life at a relatively hyperthermic situation.…”

“…PANI is infusible and insoluble in conventional organic solvents and degraded at higher temperature [52,53]. Because of these reasons, PANI is treated as an intractable material.…”

“…Based on its redox properties, EPI was used as a recognition element in the fabrication of electrochemical sensors [52][53][54][55] and as an anticorrosion material [56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64]. Based on its doping and dedoping capability, EPI was also explored as a gas separation membrane [65], and as a smart material characterized for its switchable superhydrophobicity [66]. There have also been papers that investigated means to improve EPI's mechanical strength [67,68] and thermal properties [69].…”
