Mechanism and Clinical Significance of the Prothrombotic State in Patients With Essential Hypertension

Abstract: The hypercoagulative state exists in patients with hypertension and this state was more obvious with the elevation of blood pressure and coincided with an impairment in the degree of endothelium-dependent vasodilation.

“…The concomitant diseases such as hypertension and infection may be the causes of hypercoagulable. (22,(25)(26)(27) Furthermore the trauma of subsequent revision surgery, intraoperative blood loss and transfusions may lead to a hypercoagulable state. The main risk factors of thrombosis following trauma of surgery include: physical disruption of the endothelium in trauma or surgery, blood ow is relatively static, stasis and local accumulation of tissue factor, the expression of tissue factors caused by stimulation of in ammatory mediators.…”

“…smoking, body mass index, diet, physical activity, blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels. [31] This set of recommendations, like those of the United States Preventive Services Task Force 2013, advises intensive interventions for weight management and additionally offers much more detail on recommended diet and exercise.…”

“…Similarly, P-selectin, a marker of platelet activation is increased in hypertensive individuals and is reduced by antihypertensive treatment [64]. Additionally, increases in PAI-1 and P-selectin are increased in disease and correlate with endothelial dysfunction, suggesting a potential role in the pathogenesis of hypertension [65]. Finally, von Willebrand factor, a glycoprotein which is secreted by endothelial cells and plays a role in blood coagulation, is increased in hypertension and correlates with measures of endothelial function [64,[66][67][68].…”
