Abstract: During gliotoxin biosynthesis in fungi, the cytochrome P450 GliF enzyme catalyzes an unusual C–N ring-closure step while also an aromatic ring is hydroxylated in the same reaction cycle, which may have relevance to drug synthesis reactions in biotechnology.
