Mechanisms of pressure-diuresis and pressure-natriuresis in Dahl salt-resistant and Dahl salt-sensitive rats

Abstract: BackgroundData on blood flow regulation, renal filtration, and urine output in salt-sensitive Dahl S rats fed on high-salt (hypertensive) and low-salt (prehypertensive) diets and salt-resistant Dahl R rats fed on high-salt diets were analyzed using a mathematical model of renal blood flow regulation, glomerular filtration, and solute transport in a nephron.ResultsThe mechanism of pressure-diuresis and pressure-natriuresis that emerges from simulation of the integrated systems is that relatively small increases… Show more

“…Mathematical models especially focusing on these mechanisms are available in literature (Holstein-Rathlou and Marsh, 1990; Feldberg et al, 1995; Thomas et al, 2006). Recently, a mathematical model taking into account tubuloglomerular feedback was used in order to analyze the mechanism of pressure-diuresis and pressure-natriuresis (Beard and Mescam, 2012). Another regulatory mechanism which is currently not represented in the model is the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which influences GFR as well as sodium and water reabsorption (Kobori et al, 2007).…”
