Mechanization of static mechanical systems inspection planning process

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to review the evolution of inspection and maintenance (I&M) practices used for aging and newly built oil and gas (O&G) facilities. It also proposes a framework and an approach for mechanizing inspection planning to perform preventive maintenance (PM) activities, taking technical condition (TC) and relative degradation (RD) into consideration. Design/methodology/approach -The paper systematically collects, categorizes, and analyzes the published literature of both researche… Show more

“…Today's inspection operations face the challenge of maintaining consistent quality from one inspection program to another due to the variability in planning processes between different inspection planning engineers. The proposed inspection planning mechanism based on fuzzy logic helps to minimize variability and improve the quality of inspection programs [29].…”

“…Although the information gathered during PM was used to trend the monotonically increasing degradation, the overall method used was analytical in nature, with the degradation process modelled as a Poisson process and then as a Gamma process. Overall, the idea of using data gathered during inspection and maintenance activities for the purpose of LE has been explored in the past (Labeau and Segovia, 2011;Ratnayake, 2015). Nguyen and Medjaher (2019) proposed a dynamic predictive maintenance framework comprising a prognostic process and a post-prognostic decision-making process.…”

“…The emergence of condition-based maintenance (CBM) instigates the deployment of other tools such as the proportional hazard model to investigate the influence of covariates on system's degradation (Lorna Wong et al, 2010). Maintenance strategies shift to predictive making decision using prognostic information and remaining useful life (URL) modeling has been the subject of newly published researches (Helge Nystad and Rasmussen, 2010;Ratnayake, 2015).…”
