Mechanochemical synthesis of nanophotocatalysts SiO2/TiO2/Fe2O3: their structural, thermal and photocatalytic properties

Abstract: In the study the mechanochemical synthesis was used to prepare photocatalytic materials based on TiO2, SiO2, and Fe2O3. During the preparation the impact of composition, milling speed, and calcination process on the properties of the composites was investigated. The structural and thermal properties of photocatalysts were determined using the N2 adsorption/desorption, XRD, and FT-IR/PAS methods. The thermal stability of the obtained materials was also examined (TG/DTG). Moreover, their photocatalytic activity … Show more

“…Furthermore, photocatalytic results confirm that ball milling is a simple and efficient way to prepare photocatalysts without byproducts. [245] In addition, mechanochemical methods are widely used to develop high quality perovskite ceramic oxides. [246] Kawrani et al mixed a stochiometric amount of CaCO 3 , TiO 2 and CuO using a ball mill in an alumina balls and jar for 5 h to obtain CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 as a Ti-based perovskite material.…”

“…[ 29 , 30 ] The efficiency of mechanochemical processes depends on a variety of factors, including mill rotation speed, duration, temperature, and milling environment. [ 31 ] It is vital to create a unique technique to achieve the efficient production of Bi 2 VO 5.5 with cost effectiveness, environmental friendliness, and controllability in order to comply with ever‐stricter environmental rules. A photocatalytic study using Bi 2 VO 5.5 powder produced through the MBM method has not been explored till now.…”

“…Their products are harmless to the environment (Rauf and Ashraf, 2009;Viswanathan, 2018). Heterogeneous photocatalysts based on TiO2 have attracted a significant attention for wastewater treatment (Ammari et al, 2020;Farghali et al, 2016;Ajmal et al, 2014;Kucio et al, 2020). There are many methods for producing photocatalysts, e.g.…”

“…However, these processes are characterized by large consumption of solvents and energy and usually generate high temperatures and pressures as well as a lot of dangerous by-products (Molchanov and Buyanov, 2001). The other method which enables synthesis of materials with photocatalytic activity is the mechanochemical synthesis also known as mechanical ball-milling (Kucio et al, 2019;Kucio et al, 2020). This method enables grinding powders into fine particles inducing formation of new chemical bonds and generating pores.…”
