Introduction: A steam power plant company is an electric energy production company, utilizing main energy sources such as coal, biomass, and other energies that are related to production process. This company is a big industry that operates 24 hours and have many various steps of production process. It is also supported by a variety of high-risk system equipment such as confined spaces, working at height, hot work, ergonomics, mechanics, and others. This type of work can lead to workers’ unsafe conditions and unsafe acts. One of the causes is the psychological aspects of workers, namely the lack of workers’ awareness and understanding in implementing occupational safety aspects. Workers’ psychology in this study is Psychological Capital (PsyCap) with self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience dimensions. This study aims to analyze PsyCap impacts on safety behavior of contractor workers. Methods: this study was an observational analytic research using cross-sectional approach. The population was all workers in a steam power plant company in units 7&8, totalling 400 contractors. This study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 101 respondents of contractor workers. The questionnaires consisted of items about self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience dimension of PsyCap and safety compliance and safety participation dimension of safety behavior. The analysis used a Structural Equational Modeling (SEM) method and AMOS software. Results: PsyCap dimensions that impacted on safety behavior was optimism. Conclusion: optimism dimension was the factor that had the strongest impact on safety behavior especially workers’ safety compliance. Meanwhile, other PsyCap dimensions which did not have not impact on safety behavior were safety compliance and safety participation dimensions.Keywords: contractor worker, psychological capital, safety behavior, steam power plant company, structural equational modelling

Introduction: Phosphoric acid production has not been achieved in the phosphoric acid industry due to unsafe actions and conditions influenced by various factors, including workplace safety. The work safety climate can measure certain perceptions of safety factors in the workplace and has seven dimensions. The demographic characteristics have a relationship with the perceptions of working safety. This study aims to analyze the work safety climate based on demographic characteristics in the phosphoric acid industry using a radar plot. Methods: The research design was a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The population of the study is 44 workers in the phosphoric acid industry, with a total sampling of 44 employees. The dependent variable of the study was the work safety climate, and the independent variable was the demographic characteristics. The instrument employs NOSACQ-50 (50 questions) and analyzes the data with frequency tables and radar plot diagrams. Results: Dimensions management safety priority, commitment and competence were classified as good. The work safety climate is good, based on education level and age category. The work safety dimension based on job position is classified as relatively bad. Conclusion: The best dimension of work safety climate is in the foreman job position, the dimension of work safety climate is best at the education level after high school graduation, and the dimension of work safety climate is best at all age categories.

The study examined the determinants of compliance to safety and health measures in construction sites in Kampala Central Division, Uganda. Questionnaires containing information relating to safety and health measures at the sites were administered randomly to the construction workers selected from four (4) selected building sites across the division. The results revealed that there was a 95% level of compliance to safety and health measures which is considered an unacceptable standard and requires attention in the short term according to the scale developed by MBSAT, among the building construction workers in the division. It was also established that there were no personal determinants that affected compliance to safety and health measures within the division as all of them were found to be statistically insignificant. This indicated that none of the personal determinants is a significant predictor of compliance (at 5% level of significance). The results further revealed that there was a significant association between three organizational determinants of compliance: adequacy of legislation, availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and availability of standard operating procedures (SOPs) or policy. This proved that there is an association between personal and organizational determinants of compliance to occupational safety in construction sites in Kampala Central Division (at 5% level of significance). However in practice this means there is no one single factor which can determine compliance but a combination of factors of which the organizational factors are more significant in compliance than personal determinants.
