IntroductionMusic festivals are globally attended events that bring together performers and fans for a defined period of time. These festivals often have on-site medical care to help reduce the impact on local health care systems. Historically, the literature suggests that patient transfers off-site are frequently related to complications of substance use. However, there is a gap in understanding why patients are transferred to hospital when an on-site medical team, capable of providing first aid services blended with a higher level of care (HLC) team, is present.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to better understand patterns of injuries and illnesses that necessitate transfer when physician-led HLC teams are accessible on-site.MethodsThis is a prospective, descriptive case series analyzing patient encounter documentation from four large-scale, North American, multi-day music festivals.Results/DiscussionOn-site medical teams that included HLC team members were present for the duration of each festival, so every team was able to “treat and release” when clinically appropriate. Over the course of the combined 34 event days, there were 10,406 patient encounters resulting in 156 individuals being transferred off-site for assessment, diagnostic testing, and/or treatment. A minority of patients seen were transferred off-site (1.5%). The patient presentation rate (PPR) was 16.5/1,000. The ambulance transfer rate (ATR) was 0.12/1,000 attendees, whereas the total transfer-to-hospital rate (TTHR), when factoring in non-ambulance transport, was 0.25/1,000. In contrast to existing literature on transfers from music festivals, the most common reason for transfer off-site was for musculo-skeletal (MSK) injuries (53.8%) that required imaging.ConclusionThe presence of on-site HLC teams impacted the case mix of patients transferred to hospital, and may reduce the number of transfers for intoxication. Confounding preconceptions, patients in the present study were transferred largely for injuries that required specialized imaging and testing that could not be performed in an out-of-hospital setting. These results suggest that a better understanding of the specific effects on-site HLC teams have on avoiding off-site transfers will aid in improving planning for music festivals. The findings also identify areas for further improvement in on-site care, such as integrated on-site radiology, which could potentially further reduce the impact of music festivals on local health services. IssuesMusic is among the most frequently used medium to promote young adults' well‐being. To that aim, the efficiency of music is explained by its capacity to modulate emotions through its effect on the brain's reward pathways. Hence, music could help individuals suffering from dysregulations in these pathways, whose experience of positive emotions is often inhibited. Such dysregulations are particularly present in individuals with problematic psychoactive substance (PAS) use, who are overrepresented in the context of homelessness. While few of them initiate treatment, they successfully rely on their own resources to promote their well‐being, including music, though its impact in this context remains under‐studied.ApproachThis scoping review describes the impact of music on the well‐being, PAS use and addictive trajectory of young housed and homeless individuals with problematic PAS use. Eleven French and English databases were screened for peer‐reviewed articles using concepts and keywords related to music, PAS and well‐being. From the 3697 results, 39 were reviewed. Results were organised according to the observed impact of music and analysed critically.Key FindingsLiterature shows that PAS users value the impact of music in meeting emotional, psychological and social needs, especially when they experience homelessness. Yet, research has been highly limited to the harmful consequences of music, limiting our knowledge of its potential benefits.Implications and ConclusionTo deepen our understanding about the impact of music, future research should endorse a broader perspective and consider the personal and contextual experiences accompanying the involvement in music, factors that were traditionally overlooked.

O 3-4 metilenodioximetanfetamina (MDMA) também conhecido popularmente como ecstasy é uma droga sintética comumente usada por frequentadores das chamadas raves. Não se tem muitos dados epidemiológicos sobre o uso de ecstasy no Brasil, porém o crescimento do número de apreensões da droga no país demonstra que há um aumento no número de usuários. O presente estudo tem o objetivo de descrever o perfil sociodemográfico, econômico e padrão de uso de usuários de ecstasy que moram na cidade de Goiânia-GO. Para realizar essa pesquisa foi realizada uma coleta de dados por meio da plataforma Google Forms de 60 participantes que se autodeclaram usuários de ecstasy e moram na cidade de Goiânia-GO. Em relação aos resultados obtidos nesse estudo o perfil dos usuários participantes em sua maioria são jovens, que tem entre 20 e 22 anos (77%) sendo a maioria do gênero feminino (55%). A maior parte está cursando ensino superior (67%) e a maioria se classifica como tendo renda de mais de R$2.862 a R$5.724 (27%). Quanto ao tempo de uso da droga 45% dos participantes da pesquisa afirmaram que consomem o ecstasy entre 2 e 3 anos. Neste estudo 98% dos participantes afirmaram que utilizam o ecstasy em finais de semana e feriados. Dos participantes desta pesquisa, 97% afirmaram que fazem uso da droga em festas de música eletrônica. Sobre o preço pago pelo comprimido 57% pagam entre 20 e 30 reais. A droga mais utilizada em associação com o ecstasy foi o álcool seguido pela maconha. A partir dos resultados obtidos pode-se se concluir que é necessário retomar políticas de redução de danos bem como tornar mais efetivas as ações de punição dos produtores e fornecedores da droga e uma fiscalização mais rigorosa da entrada e comercialização da droga em festas.
