Medicinal flora of the Vidlič mountain in Serbia

Abstract: A study of medicinal flora of the Vidlič mountain situated in southeastern Serbia was conducted. The presence of 264 plant species, that are considered official or used in folk medicine is recorded. An overview of medicinal plants is given in a systematic order. For each herb species, main medicinal substances which enter in its chemical composition are listed. An overview of plant parts which are curative and which families contain the highest numbers of medicinal species, are presented. A special review of s… Show more

“…It is a medicinal plant species that in its aboveground plant part, particularly in leaves, contains a wide range of bioactive compounds with pronounced pharmacological activities (Sendl et al, 1992). Its healing properties are associated with the content of sulphur, phenolic compounds (especially phenolic acids), saponins and carotenoids (Schmitt et al, 2005;Lachowicz et al, 2016;Marković et al, 2019). The fresh leaf of A. ursinum proved to have a high antioxidant potential due to the presence of phenolic compounds (Stajner et al, 2008).…”

“…The distribution of alkaloids is generally limited within the genus Sedum L. (Sedum acre-group); Several types of alkaloids have been identified -pyrrolidines and piperidines (2-monosubstituted and 2,6-disubstituted), which were considered in previous chemotaxonomic studies [4,5]. Phytochemical studies on the genus comprise several classes of secondary metabolites distributed in different plant organs: flavonoids, glucosides tannins, alkaloids, terpenes, lactones, organic acids, and polysaccharides [2,[6][7][8][9][10][11]. According to published data, extracts of the studied Hylotelephium species showed several biological activities: high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of H. erythrostictum aerial parts extract; antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of leaf and flower extracts, fractions and hydrolysates of H. spectabile x telephium; anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of the H. kamtschaticum methanol extract [1,12].…”

“…The study aimed to collect, analyze and evaluate traditional knowledge of two gentian species (G. cruciata and G. lutea) which were mentioned by respondents in the Pirot County, open possibilities for their rational exploitation in accordance with principles of protected species in Serbia, regulated by national legislation, and promote their cultivation near to their natural habitats, and therefore accelerate economic progress of this rural and underdeveloped region of Serbia. (Marković et al, 2019;2009;. Stara Planina Mts dominates the relief of Pirot County.…”
