Medium effect in high-density nuclear matter probed by a systematic analysis of nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering

Abstract: We investigate the property of the high-density nuclear matter probed by the nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering in the framework of the double-folding (DF) model with the complex G-matrix interaction. The medium effect including three-body-force (TBF) effect is investigated with present two methods based on the frozen density approximation (FDA). The medium effect is clearly seen on the potential and the elastic cross section for the 16 O + 16 O system at E/A = 70 MeV. The crucial role of the medium effect is … Show more

“…(1) Figure 6: Total reaction cross sections of p + 12 C, 40 Ca, 56 Fe, 90 Zr, and 208 Pb systems as a function of the incident proton energy E p . (2) Figure 7: Total reaction cross sections of p + 12 C, 16 O, 24 Mg, 28 Si, 40 Ca, 48 Ti, 50 Ti, 52 Cr, 56 Fe, 58 Ni, 64 Zn, 68 Zn, 90 Zr, 98 Mo, 106 Pd, 114 Cd, 120 Sn, 142 Nd, 158 Gd, 164 Dy, 180 Hf, 184 W, 194 Pt, 208 Pb, and 238 U systems at E p = 60, 65. As one can see from these figures, both the cross sections with the MGOP1 (RMF; solid line) and MGOP2 (HF + BCS; dotted line) models fairly well reproduce the experimental data.…”

“…Using the same effective interactions, the double-folding model for heavyion collisions has also been developed, and the 3BF effect on the elastic and inelastic cross sections has been investigated [16][17][18][19][20][21]. However, it seems that the analysis of the scattering of heavy-ion systems with the confined 3BF effect provided by the chiral effective field theory (CEFT) does not include the medium effect in the high-density region, which has been shown to be important in Refs [22,23]. Construction of a complex G-matrix interaction based on the CEFT interactions that takes into account the medium effect is thus anticipated.…”

“…In heavier systems, 3NF effects may be represented by the density-dependence of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) effective interaction (the g-matrix interaction) [5,6]. Very recently, nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering is investigated as a probe of 3NF effects at high density [7]. 3NF effects reduce the cross sections at large scattering angles significantly, where higher than normal density is produced in the overlapping area between the projectile and target densities.…”
