Medium effects in proton-inducedK0production at 3.5 GeV

Abstract: We present the analysis of the inclusive K 0 production in p + p and p + Nb collisions measured with the HADES detector (GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Heavy-Ion Research, Darmstadt) at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV. Data are compared to the Giessen Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (GiBUU) transport model. The data suggest the presence of a repulsive momentum-dependent kaon potential as predicted by the chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). For the kaon at rest and at normal nuclear density, the ChPT potential amounts to… Show more

“…If one combines the findings presented in [138] and [134], one can see that some evidence of a repulsive interaction between 20 and 40 MeV at saturation density for neutral kaons within nuclei is visible. The effect is present at both small and large momenta, but the conclusions are still extremely model dependent.…”

“…One should also note that the involved transport model do not reproduce the inclusive kaon spectra for the same reaction. Figure 14 shows the ratio of the momentum distribution of K 0 S produced in p + N b reactions at a kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV for two different bins in the polar emission angle θ in the laboratory reference system [134]. Forward emission angles in the laboratory frame are selected, since for this phase space region the effect of the potential is more evident due to the longer average path of kaons within the nucleus.…”
