Abstract

Individuals need a social structure in order to develop and learn with the birth, first in childhood and later throughout adulthood. Firstly, children, who realizes their first learning in the family, which is the cornerstone of this structure, acquire information through various symbols in school life, professional life and other social environments and shapes their behaviors by structuring this information in their mind. Children acquire knowledge of genders and gender roles in these ways, as well. One of the external factors that have a significant impact in this structuring process is the media. Through media contents, various facts such as behavior patterns, attitudes and values that are accepted in the society are conveyed to individuals, especially to children who are open to mental shaping. One of them is the phenomenon of gender. In this study, the effects of gender stereotypes presented through media contents on children who are in the process of sexual development have been analyzed and tried to be revealed in the context of literature.
