Meeting Report From the 2016 11th Biennial Ovarian Cancer Research Symposium

Abstract: Eradication of ovarian cancers requires clear understanding of molecular mechanisms of ovarian cancer initiation and progression. These mechanisms will not only drive the precision of early detection, but also discovery of new therapies to target precursor lesions and more advanced stage disease.

“…In fact, over 70% of ovarian cancers are not diagnosed until the disease has progressed to stage III or IV. The survival rates for ovarian cancer after ve years to be 47.4% (Chien and Poole, 2018). In 2018, Mallen and co-workers noted that many ovarian cancers originate in the fallopian tube.…”

“…These results indicate that the combination is significantly more effective in inducing caspase-mediated cell death than a single agent. Given that both CB-5083 and mifepristone have been shown to induce the unfolded protein response [ 14 , 15 , 25 , 30 , 31 ], we checked two prominent unfolded protein response markers, namely glucose-regulated protein 78 (Grp78/HSPA5), C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP/DDIT3), and total K48 linked poly-ubiquitinated proteins. We observed a robust induction of both Grp78 and CHOP in cells treated with the combination or CB-5083 alone but not in cells treated with mifepristone alone ( Figure 3 A).…”

“…Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate among gynecological malignancies. More than 70% of patients with ovarian cancer are already in the advanced stage of the disease when the cancer is detected [10] , and there is still a lack of accurate early diagnosis and prevention methods [11] . Radiomics avoids the disadvantages of subjectivity, histopathology, and local sampling in conventional imaging tests.…”
