“…The community of Myojin Knoll has received considerable study, especially for metazoan macro-and megafauna (Sasaki et al, 2010;Yorisue et al, 2016;Koito et al, 2018;Watanabe et al, 2019). Metazoan meiofauna from vent chimney walls have also received dedicated study at Myojin Knoll (Uejima et al, 2017;Senokuchi et al, 2018;Uyeno et al, 2018). Additionally, the metazoan meiofauna have been documented from the sediments at the base of Myojin Knoll chimneys and nearby habitats (Setoguchi et al, 2014;Uejima et al, 2017), at ≥2-cm depth resolution.…”

“…Recently, we investigated spatial variations in meiofaunal composition on active chimney structures in the calderas of three neighbouring sea knolls (Bayonnaise Knoll, Myojin Knoll and Myojin-sho Caldera) on the Izu-Ogasawara Arc, north-western Pacific Ocean (Figure 1). These studies revealed that the meiofaunal communities on the surfaces of active vent chimneys were dominated by benthic copepods, whereas nematodes were the most abundant taxa in the sediments located around chimney bases (Setoguchi et al, 2014;Uejima et al, 2017). Furthermore, spatial differences in order-level copepod taxonomic composition on venting chimney surfaces were significantly correlated with differences in the availability of vent chemoautotrophic carbon.…”
