Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) (Meloidogyne spp.) are well known disease problem causing major losses in vegetable crops. Although, chemical nematicides have been used as one of the primary means for controlling RKNs, reliance on these nematicides is associated with heavy costs and negative effects on human health and environment. In this research, the suppressing potential of 6 Iranian commercial fertilizers on RKNs was investigated in laboratory and greenhouse conditions as an alternative to reduce the use of chemical nematicides. For this purpose, M. javanica inoculum was thoroughly mixed with autoclaved sandy loam soil. Then, 6 fertilizers (biofertilizer, phosphate chemical fertilizer (phosphate), potassium chemical fertilizer (potassium), peat moss, vermicompost, and leaf mold) were added individually to the inoculated soil, according to the defined treatments. The nematicide Cadusafos was used as a positive control. A negative control was also included in the experiment (including no fertilizer and no nematicide). Four-leaf seedlings of the tomato (Super Chief cv.) were transferred to the pots filled using 2 kg of the treated soil. After 60 days, reproduction factor (RF), egg mass, and root galling of the nematode were recorded. The results showed that, fertilizer-treated soils had significantly (P≤0.05) lower root galling, egg mass, and RF compared to the negative control. After the nematicide treatment, the highest suppression capability on the RKN was obtained in treatments of phosphate, biofertilizer, potassium, vermicompost, peat moss, and leaf mold, respectively. It can be concluded that, replacing chemical nematicides with fertilizers may be considered as a successful nematode management in tomato fields.

Host reaction of some cucumber cultivars to Meloidogyne arenaria and M. incognita Cultivation of resistant or poor hosts to root-knot nematodes provides significant advantages in nematode-infested areas. In this respect, it is important to know the reactions of the different varieties to the root nematodes. In this study, the host status of 15 cucumber cultivars (Cucumis sativus), which are widely used commercially, to M. arenaria and M. incognita was evaluated by a pot experiment in a greenhouse. Although nematode infection increased root weights of all cultivars compared to the controls, these increases were significant (P≤0.05) only in 1 cultivar (Toskono) and other 2 cultivars (Everest and Seyhan) for M. arenaria and M. incognita, respectively. These cultivars also had the highest formation of galls for related nematode species among all tested. All of the cucumber cultivars were susceptible to different levels of both nematode species, and the lowest gall index according to the 0-10 gall index were detected in Almino with 2.8 for M. arenaria and Venüs with 3.8 for M. incognita. The highest and the lowest reproduction factors on cultivars were 5.84 and 17.16 for M. arenaria and 8.28 and 17.84 for M. incognita, respectively. Nine cultivars showed different reaction at the significant level in terms of reproductive factor compared to the nematode species and 8 of them also differed based on the galling index.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Raphanus sativus L. (kırmızı turp), Lepidium sativum L. (tere) ve Eruca vesicaria (L.) Cav. (roka) (Brassicales: Brassicaceae)'nın toz haline getirilmiş tohumlarının domates ve salatalıkta Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White, 1919) Chitwood, 1949 (Tylenchida: Meloidogynidae) üzerindeki baskılayıcı etkinliğinin araştırılmasıdır. Çalışma, 2022 yılı Ocak-Nisan ayları arasında kontrollü koşullarda yürütülmüştür. Çalışma, bitkilerin tohum unlarının tekli, ikili ve üçlü olmak üzere 14 uygulamasından oluşmaktadır. Domates ve salatalıkların saksılara dikilmesinden bir hafta sonra 1 000 J2 ile nematod aşılaması yapılmıştır. Tohum unları, nematod aşılamasından üç gün sonra toprakla karıştırılmıştır. Uygulamadan altmış gün sonra, köklerdeki ur ve yumurta paketi 1-9 skalasına göre değerlendirilmiştir ve yüzde kontrol etki değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Gal ve yumurta paketi üzerinde en yüksek baskılayıcı etki domates ve hıyarda turp (2 g/bitki) + tere (2 g/bitki) + roka (2 g/bitki) üçlü uygulamasında saptanmıştır. İkili uygulamaların gal ve yumurta paketi üzerindeki kontrol etkisi, domates ve hıyarda %55'in üzerinde bulunmuştur. Her iki bitkide de tek başına 6 g/bitki turp tohum unu uygulamasının kontrol etkisinin, roka (2 g/bitki) + turp (2 g/bitki) ve tere (2 g/bitki) + turp (2 g/bitki) ikili uygulamaları ile benzer olduğu bulunmuştur. Tekli uygulamada en yüksek kontrol etki 6 g/bitki ile turp tohumu unundan elde edilmiştir. İkili uygulamalarda turp içerenlerin M. incognita üzerinde daha etkili olduğu bulunmuştur. Meloidogyne incognita üzerinde turp tohum unu uygulamasının tere ve rokaya göre daha başarılı kontrol sağladığı belirlenmiştir.
