“…That all participants in the current study only disclosed their CSA after they were adults, with a majority only reporting after they became fathers, is indicative of the burden and stigma associated with CSA for fathers. Time to disclosure of CSA has been estimated to be in excess of 20 years for men (Easton, 2014), with such delays having adverse implications for their mental well-being (Romano et al, 2019), and more broadly, for child protection (McElvaney, 2015). Hence, future research, with a larger, more diverse sample is warranted to establish what facilitates and hinders disclosure with this population, and to identify the optimal conditions for earlier help-seeking behaviour.…”
