Meningeal myofibroblastoma in the frontal lobe: A case report

Abstract: Myofibroblastoma is a benign tumor composed of spindle cells in clusters and fascicles. To date, only three cases of intracranial myofibroblastoma have been reported. The present study reports the case of a 47-year-old female with meningeal myofibroblastoma. The patient had a history of ovarian cyst resection and presented with paroxysmal mild headaches that had been apparent for 4 years. Magnetic resonance imaging disclosed a well-circumscribed mass in the left frontal lobe. A resection of the mass was perfor… Show more

“…In addition, MRI with T1/T2 imaging can demonstrate adipose tissue. The value of CT scan and MRI in the diagnosis of myofibroblastoma has been described by many authors 19 23. The most appropriate diagnostic test for a clinically or radiologically evolving soft tissue mass is a biopsy, due to suspicion of sarcoma.…”

“…The histopathologic changes associated with extramammary myofibroblastomas often include abundant fascicular clusters of spindle- and oval-shaped cells, which are arranged in interlaced or swirled patterns [ 4 ]. The above characteristic was also detected in our patient.…”

“…Xu et al [ 4 ] indicate that CT and MRI are useful imaging methods in the diagnosis of myofibroblastoma. Shinojima et al [ 11 ] described myofibroblastoma as a low- or mixed low- and high-density mass on CT, which was similar with CT of our present patient.…”
