Objective: This study was centered to explore the prevalence and determinants of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) in postmenopausal women of Eastern, Uttar Pradesh (UP). Methodology: A cross sectional study was performed, over a period of 6 months (September 2018 to February 2019), on 162 women, who had attained menopause one or more years back, visiting to Gynecology OPD of B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and had given consent for participation. Using a pre structured questionnaire, the participating women were questioned about genitourinary complains, and the relationship between these symptoms and other factors were determined. Results: The prevalence of genitourinary syndrome was found to be 38.6%. The most prevalent genital symptom was vaginal irritation/burning (69.35%), followed by vaginal dryness (61.29%). Increased frequency of micturition (54.83%) and dysuria (51.6%) were the most prevalent urological symptoms. However, dyspareunia, in sexually active females, was the most common (14.52%) symptom. Most prevalent signs were loss of vaginal rugae (88.71%) and vaginal pallor (69.35%). The prevalence of genitourinary symptoms was higher in women already having urogynecological pathologies, like stress incontinence (OR 3.6), vaginal prolapse (OR 4.43), urinary tract infections (OR 2.77). BMI >30 kg/m2 was found to be an important determinant for genitourinary syndrome. Conclusion: The prevalence of GSM is very high in Eastern UP. There is an urgent need that all Government and non-Government health sectors should have a menopausal clinic, with the aim of timely diagnosis and treatment and to improve the quality of life of menopausal women. Objective Lifestyle modification is consistently recommended for healthy living during menopause; nonetheless, there is paucity of data on menopausal experiences and lifestyle practices of women in rural communities of Nigeria. This study assessed the lifestyle practices of menopausal women, their experiences of menopause-related symptoms and the influence of lifestyle practices on their experiences of menopause-related symptoms. Method A descriptive cross-sectional design was used in this study. Systematic random sampling was used to select 271 menopausal women at household level in rural communities of Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Nigeria. A self-developed structured questionnaire was used to assess lifestyle practices while modified menopause rating scale was used to assess menopausal-related symptoms of the women. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS version 22 at 0.05 level of significance. Results Findings revealed that 58.3% had poor lifestyle, while 41.0% and 0.7% had moderate and good lifestyle, respectively. Findings showed that 66.4% of the women experienced moderate menopause-related symptoms, while 15.5% and 0.4% of the women had severe and very severe menopause-related symptoms respectively. Result of the multiple regression indicated that Exercise (β = 0.22, t = 3.63, p = .01), Nutrition (β = 0.13, t = 2.23, p = .02) and Substance use (β = 0.04, t = 2.25, p = .02) were major predictors of menopause-related symptoms. Conclusion The study concluded that positive lifestyle modification could help reduce menopausal-related symptoms.

Peri-menopause is natural event where ovarian follicular activity is reduced, for this reason women are prone to develop various physical and psychological symptoms. A descriptive study was conducted to detect psychological problems and coping strategies among peri- menopausal women in selected district of West Bengal. 200 participants were selected through non- probability purposive sampling technique to assess psychological problems and coping strategies among them and to find out the association between identified psychological problems and coping strategies with selected demographic variables. Conceptual framework of this study was based on Lazarus & Folkman’s Transactional Model of stress and coping. Semi-structured questionnaire, DASS 21 Questionnaire and Brief COPE Inventory were used to collect data. Result revealed that 63.5% peri- menopausal women had no depression, 2% had extremely severe depression. 71% had no anxiety; 55.5% had no stress and 10% had severe stress. Most of the peri- menopausal women (57.5 %) adopted moderate coping strategies. Chi-square test revealed that there was significant association between depression and educational status (p< 0.05). Coping strategies were also significantly associated with their monthly family income (p<0.05).
