“…Recently scholars have begun to explore the often-overlooked role of physical health in understanding behavior. In particular, research has investigated the relationship between poor physical health and criminal behavior both in and out of confinement (Ford, 2014; Grosholz & Semenza, 2018; Kort-Butler, 2017; Piquero, Daigle, Gibson, Piquero, & Tibbetts, 2007; Piquero, Shepherd, Shepherd, & Farrington, 2011; Schroeder, Hill, Haynes, & Bradley, 2011; Semenza, 2018; Semenza & Grosholz, 2019; Stogner & Gibson, 2010, 2011; Stogner, Gibson, & Miller, 2014). Scholars find that poor physical health is associated with an increase in the likelihood of juvenile delinquency, adult offending, substance use, and institutional misconduct (Ford, 2014; Grosholz & Semenza, 2018; Kort-Butler, 2017; Schroeder et al, 2011; Semenza, 2018; Semenza & Grosholz, 2019; Stogner & Gibson, 2010, 2011; Stogner et al, 2014).…”
