Mental Health Care in Primary Health Care: An Integrative Review

“…Of these, seven were selected with a score greater than 50% of compliance with the Nursing Process, carried out by three nurses. The consultations presented few competencies in the care management dimension proposed for the ANP, nevertheless, NC presented 39.68% in the care focus, 38.78% in assessment and diagnosis and 47.62% in the provision of care.Conclusions: nurses who carry out mental health nursing consultations in PHC present, in a scarce and partial way, the competencies proposed for the ANP regarding the domain of care management.Furthermore, mild emotional suffering, depression, anxiety and problems related to the use of psychoactive substances, which affect the general population and with a relevant predominance, lead PHC teams to act based on the principles of health responsibility and territorialization, and must comply with and carry out care actions in MH (5) , through strategies that value the multiple dimensions of the subject suffering from mental illness, paying attention to their values, choices and desires (6) .In this context, the professional nurse stands out as an essential element for mental health care in PHC (7) , through actions based on listening, welcoming, bonding and interpersonal relationships, with the nursing consultation being a basic component in this process.Although some challenges are reported for the consolidation of this care, it is understood that favoring the performance of advanced roles (8) , by strengthening autonomy and expanding the scope, can be a potential strategy to expand access and attention to needs of the population (9) , especially in places with limited resources.In this sense, increasing discussions have been observed about advanced nursing practices (ANP) in several countries. In general, this professional is characterized as a nurse who presents complex decisionmaking skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice (10) .…”
