“…The mercury content of the sediments ranges from 0.01 to 0.03 ,ug / g, with an average of 0.0198 ± 0.0045 ,ug / g. As shown in Distribution of mercury (ug/g) found in sediments in the Huanghe Estuary. [Nelson et al, 1975] [ Xu et al, 1982] ["I [Smith et al, 1973] [ Lindberg et al, 1975] ["I [Loring, 1975] [ Lindberg et al, 1975] [Zomgde and Desai, 1981] [ Kumagai and Nishimura, 1978] the mercury content found in average sandstone. Such low mercury content suggests that the area investigated has so far not been contaminated by anthropogenic mercury.…”

“…In this study, the Zn concentrations are found to be high on twofold and are classified as ''moderately contaminated sites'' (Stations S 2 , S 3 , S 4 , and S 5 ) as well as ''low polluted'' sites (station S 1 ) according to USEPA criteria (Giesy and Hoke 1990). The results indicate that the anthropogenic influence is caused by: (i) the input of untreated domestic sewage, as these elements have a preferential association with organic matter (Hirner et al 1990), (ii) through industrial effluent discharge, and (iii) extensive use of antifouling paints by shipping activities (Zingde and Desai 1979). These two elements (Cu and Zn) show significant correlation (Table 3) suggesting that both of them are predominantly from a common source.…”

“…The Mahim Creek which enters the Mahim Bay receives the overflow of Vihar and Powai lakes during monsoon via the Mithi River (85 m 3 s −1 during August) and the system resembles an effluent drain affecting pollution in the bay. The Mithi River and the Mahim Creek are known to be highly polluted water bodies receiving large volumes of sewage and industrial effluents and have been investigated in the past (Zingde and Desai 1981;Zingde and Sabnis 1994). Thane…”
