The primary objective of this study was to determine the relationship between meritocracy and job performance in the Provincial Municipality of San Román. To achieve this purpose, a quantitative approach with a correlational scope was employed. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 18 indicators. The method of analysis was deductive. The study population comprised 453 employees, and the sample included 209 of them, selected through probabilistic sampling. The results show a correlation coefficient of r = 0.660, indicating a moderate positive correlation between meritocracy and job performance. The significance level was 0.000 < 0.05, which confirms a significant relationship between the two variables. This result suggests that as meritocratic practices are implemented in staff selection and promotion processes, employees' job performance tends to improve. It was concluded that meritocracy promotes a more equitable and efficient work environment and is substantially linked to employee performance, highlighting its importance in the design of public management policies.
