meso-2′-Linked porphyrin–BODIPY hybrids: synthesis and efficient excitation energy transfer

Abstract: Three meso-2'-linked porphyrin-BODIPY hybrids which contain one, two, and four BODIPY units (, , and ), respectively, were synthesized. Their photophysical properties were investigated by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, as well as by theoretical calculations. The electronic properties of the constituent chromophores were found to be largely retained in these hybrids. Meanwhile, efficient and rapid energy transfers from (1)* to were ev… Show more

“…The incorrect matching on the Soret band (around 430 nm) is due to the too high absorbance (>0.5) on this transition inherent of its high extinction coefficient. Overall, all of the experiments indicate an almost quantitative energy transfer from BODIPY to porphyrin and are in agreement with previous works in which similar chromophores have been utilized. ,, For transient absorption studies comparing the charge carrier properties of Pt-TiO 2 NPs with TiO 2 NPs, see the Supporting Information.…”

“…Femtosecond transient absorption spectra for BDP-TTP and 3BDP-TTP are shown in Figure 5a and Figure 6a, respectively, with 524 nm pump wavelength. Transient absorption spectra of studied BODIPY-porphyrin compounds exhibited similar features, as compared to the literature [52,53]. As seen in these figures, the bleaching signal at the 524 nm has ascribed to the saturation of the singlet state of the BODIPY unit.…”

“…Polyads exhibiting 1 Bodipy*→porphyrin processes is well documented . In order to explain this fast rate for 1 Bodipy*→porphyrin in P 2 B 2 Q , comparisons with some literature examples are provided (Figure : D1 , D2 , D3 , D4 , D5 , D6 , D7 , D8 , D9 , D10 , D11 , D12 , and D13 . This series can be separated into three sub‐series: D1 – D5 (through space), D6–D9 (through bond), and D10–D13 (directly bonded).…”
