“…But, for polycrystalline samples, the determination of the structure of new polymorphs remains a challenge. , Herein, we determine the structure of a third form of crystalline resorcinol, the ε polymorph, by comparing computed structure predictions with available powder diffraction data. We had previously associated the third ambient pressure phase as γ, yet two high pressure phases have already claimed the γ and δ identifiers. Therefore, we denote the new ambient phase ε.…”

“…In their solid phases, only m -dHBZ and p -dHBZ are known to exhibit polymorphism. 13,14 In particular, the ambient-temperature α-phase of m -dHBZ undergoes a weak transition into a β phase just before melting at ca. 369 K, involving a subtle rearrangement of intermolecular HBs.…”

“…In the literature, irreversible phase transition from α-form to β-form of resorcinol above 98 °C is very well documented. 25 POM images of solids obtained after melt crystallization over a glass slide and sandwiched between two glass slides before the thermal gradient experiment are shown in Figure S9 in SI. In the first case (Figure S9(a)), spherulite growth is observed whereas crystallization between two sandwiched glass slides (Figure S9(b)) demonstrates randomly oriented small crystals.…”

“…Resorcinol occurs in three polymorphs at atmospheric pressure, classified as α, β, and, recently observed, ε-resorcinol (see SI). These forms have been well studied in the literature. Crystallization of resorcinol from melt provides β- and ε-polymorphs wherein ε-resorcinol is obtained only in the presence of an additive. Furthermore, it was established recently that there exists asymmetric growth along polar axis, i.e., + c or − c- axis in the case of the β-form wherein growth along {011} was observed to be faster than {011̅} .…”
