Mesoporosity‐Enabled Selectivity of Mesoporous Palladium‐Based Nanocrystals Catalysts in Semihydrogenation of Alkynes

Abstract: We reported mesoporosity engineering as a general strategy to promote semihydrogenation selectivity of palladium (Pd)‐based nanobundles catalysts. The best mesoporous PdP displayed full conversion, remarkable activity, excellent selectivity, and high stability in semihydrogenation of 1‐phenyl‐1‐propyne, all of which are remarkably better than commercial Lindlar catalysts. Mechanistic investigations ascribed high semihydrogenation selectivity to the continuous crystalline framework and penetrated mesoporous cha… Show more

“…Furthermore, reducing the size of metal nanoparticles (NPs) exposes a greater number of active sites [21,22], while encapsulating the metal NPs can improve their catalytic stability [23,24]. Fu and co-workers coupled small-sized Co-based species (Co, CoO) with Ti 3 C 2 MXene by NaBH 4 reduction.…”

“…[5][6][7] Among them, hydrogen energy, H 2 , has become the ultimate energy source in the 21st century due to its high energy density, greenness, and net-zero carbon emissions. 8,9 Among various hydrogen production technologies, electrochemical water splitting has attracted much attention due to its high purity, wide sources, and high efficiency. 10,11 However, the slow kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water splitting greatly limits its large-scale applications.…”

“…Owing to this, Pd is electrophilic and has an unfilled d-electron orbital, so drawing the electrons from P (nucleophilic) causes an increase in the density of electrons around Pd, thus increasing activity. Furthermore, the existence of mesoporous channels led to weakening of the adsorption and binding strengths of propenylbenzene on Pd-active sites, thus forbidding over-hydrogenation of propenylbenzene to phenylpropane [188]. Fing et al successfully synthesized PEI-Pd hydrogel by reacting 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide-N-hydroxysuccinimide with palladium chloride solution to form metal-loaded composite hydrogels.…”
