A bs t pactThe radial ion drift velocity and temperature in an nrgon lor-pressure discharge have been me:tsuretl by n resonant laser scnttering method with high spatial resolution. The detection limit for the drift velocit.ies was 2 1 lo4 cm . 8-1. In the vicinity of the discharge axis the drift velocity grows linear with the distance from the axis. The mensurements have shown t.lie existence of a r d i d dependence of the ion temperntnre TL(7). Comparisons of nxial ion temperature 3' 1, with T,(r = 0) are an experimental demonst.rntion of the nnisotropy of the ion ve1oc.it.y distribution in this kind of discharges.
