Meta-Analysis Comparing Rosuvastatin and Atorvastatin in Reducing Concentration of C-Reactive Protein in Patients With Hyperlipidemia

Abstract: We conducted a meta-analysis of 13 randomized trials comparing the efficacy of rosuvastatin versus atorvastatin in reducing concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP). We searched PubMed, Ovid, and Elsevier databases until June 2014. Search terms included C-reactive protein or CRP, rosuvastatin, atorvastatin, randomized, randomly, and randomization; 13 trials (3798 patients) were included. Funnel plots for CRP were inspected to assess publication bias. The pooled analysis demonstrated the benefit of rosuvastat… Show more

“…The significance of clinical benefits with RSV over ATV might be explained by greater anti-inflammatory action with greater decrease in CRP levels with RSV than with ATV use. 26,27 RSV has also been found to be superior to ATV in the reversion of coronary atherosclerotic plaques 28 and in reduction of small, dense low-density lipoproteins. 29 Compared with ATV, simvastatin, and pravastatin, RSV has also been found to be superior in lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, 30,31 providing greater health benefits, besides being more cost-effective.…”

“…The anti-in ammatory and endotheliumprotective effects of rosuvastatin have been suggested to improve symptoms in patients with coronary artery disease. We chose rosuvastatin because it has stronger anti-in ammatory and antioxidant activity than atorvastatin [11]. However, there is no conclusive evidence of the therapeutic e cacy or optimal timepoint for rosuvastatin therapy in CAE patients in different age groups.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there are no studies evaluating the effects of statins on periodontitis associated with hypertension. Compared with other types of statins, ST have been demonstrating greater anti‐inflammatory action and superior potential in lowering low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol , providing greater health benefits, besides being more cost‐effective . In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of ST on ligature‐induced periodontitis in SHR through examining bone loss by histometric analysis, osteoclastogenesis by tartrate‐resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) assay and gene expression of proinflammatory molecules in gingiva using polymerase chain reaction (PCR).…”
