Meta-analysis of the role of zinc in coordinating absorption of mineral elements in wheat seedlings

Abstract: Background Zinc (Zn) is an important nutrient for human beings, which is also an essential micronutrient for crop growth. This study investigated the role of Zn in coordinating the mineral elements absorption in modern wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars with a new developed method. Results A method was developed, and showed a robust capability to simultaneously investigate seven mineral elements uptake in wheat seedling. With this method, we fo… Show more

“…For example, Ca, as a medium-level element in plants, plays an important role in maintaining the structural stability of the cell wall [ 41 ]. Zinc, as a trace element, is involved in the conversion of carbohydrates and the synthesis of proteins [ 42 ]. The application of Se fertilization might influence the mineral nutrients in crop tissues, and the degree of influence was found to vary with Se concentration, Se application method, crop variety, crop organ, etc.…”

“…Once taken up by plants, NMs could be transported and accumulated in different parts, interacting with various cellular components and further impacting plant physiology and metabolism [16]. Fe, a vital element for photosynthesis, facilitates electron transfer processes in Photosystem II, and a series of enzymes involved in photosynthesis rely on Mg as a cofactor [28], which surely strengthens photosynthesis (Figure 2). Additionally, NMs were proven to be more efficient than their equivalent ion control systems because of their unique properties [29].…”
